A contemporary extension that helps to bring the outside in | Kensington Chase, Sheffield
Located in the affluent S10 area of Sheffield this single storey extension to the rear and side of the dwelling at Kensington Chase. The extension creates a link to the existing garage, along with creating a larger kitchen, snug area and dining room that wraps around the rear of the building for family use.
The full height glazing and roof lanterns incorporated into the extension will also create better interaction with the garden to encourage inside and outside living.
The dwelling was built around ten years ago, the estate on which it sits was built at the same time and consists of good quality properties of a traditional design.
The proposal is traditional in its form and slightly contemporary in its design with the use of flat roof and roof lanterns. The extension is in keeping with the character of the existing dwelling and respectful of the surrounding vernacular.
We worked alongside leading architect Coda Studios to complete this project to ensure that the new extension at the property perfectly suited the needs of the client. The client wanted to create a more habitable space that all the family could share together which had a strong connection to the garden. Their solution was to create a large open plan living space consisting of the kitchen, dining area and a snug.
As the location is very windy throughout the year the garden is unusable for most of the time. Therefore a lot of glass was used was used to create a year round connection between the living space and the garden, including a very large 3.2 x 2m picture window which effectively frames the outside space.
